Similar to the 2010 vintage, which was relatively one of the warmest, the 2012 vintage continues the tradition of an even-numbered, warm vintage and an odd-numbered, cool vintage. The extreme heat conditions halted the sugary ripening, but the aromatic ripening and accumulation of coloring matter in the grapes continued, interestingly resulting in the creation of a black wine, with an extraordinary richness alongside a relatively moderate alcohol content for this wine. The winemaking methods and aging regime in wooden barrels were maintained. A wonderful expression of black plum, wild raspberry and a deep complexity of spices and earthiness. Despite the warm vintage, the wine exhibits wonderful freshness and wonderful balance resulting from the age of the vineyard, the lack of irrigation, the cup-lifting, and very low yields.

It will go well with spicy lamb and beef dishes, especially game or duck, and strong-flavored hard cheeses.
